Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA

A former independent agency that had its beginnings from the Congressional Act of 1803 and that became part of the new Department of Homeland Security in March 2003 and which is charged with planning for, mitigating against, responding to, and recovering from disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, floods and other natural disasters.
