Acknowledgment

A formal declaration by a person who has executed, signed, an instrument before a state-authorized person such as a notary public stating that the execution was his or her free act. An acknowledgment also is the statement by a notary public who has seen proof that the signer of the instrument is actually the person who is identified in the document which entitles it to be used as evidence without further proof.
