Bamboo is perhaps the biggest trend in home flooring today. This eco-friendly and relatively inexpensive material is resilient, beautiful, and best of all: environmental renewable. Because bamboo is a weed, it grows as much as a foot a day! It also reaches full height in six months and harvest strength within four years. By contrast, a tree has to be replanted and could take up to 20 - 120 years to reach harvest maturity. And since the average American uses wood/paper products equal to one 100-foot, 18-inch-thick tree every year, bamboo flooring is an eco-friendly alternative to hardw ood.
Furthermore, bamboo is incredibly durable since it is one of the hardest woods in existence - more than twice as hard as oak and 50% harder than Brazilian Cherry. And at $1-3 per square foot, it's no wonder bamboo has earned the respect of builders and consumers alike. Another great feature bamboo flooring offers is moisture resistance. Because bamboo is naturally moisture resistant, it resists warping and can therefore be used where standard wood floors can't, i.e. bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens. And just because its bamboo doesn't mean there aren't many installation and design options. Bamboo is offered in a variety of colors, finishes, and thicknesses. Choose from: Vertical Grain
Horizontal Grain Cubed Bamboo Bamboo floors can also be installed in a variety of ways. Bamboo is traditionally laid similar to hardwood floors. However, it can also be nailed, glued, or "floated". Floating floors can be installed over most existing floors by gluing or, more recently, "clicking". Click floors require no gluing or nailing and is installed by snap locking corresponding groves. Click floors are popular with do-it-yourselfers since they are relatively easy to install and require no gluing, nailing, or stapling. Clearly, the beauty and benefits of bamboo flooring are phenomenal. Besides making your home look fantastic, bamboo can green your home as well! (Written by: K. Skowronski) |
